Basking Hatchlings
There are some that feel box turtles don't bask and that temps above 85°F are fatal. The substrate temps under the basking light are 90° F. The turtles can actually increase the shell temperature to over 100°F. It is important to note that there is a temperature gradient. The turtles have a cool end where the temps are rarely above 70°F. They spend the day moving in and out of the basking area.
Under the basking light the shell temps can be surprisingly high. |
